Dallas Brass to perform, host clinics, at BRHS
dbloodworth, Monday 01 February 2010 - 06:34:26 //

IN CONCERT AT BRHS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25 at 7:00 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Thursday, February 25,2010 at 7 pm, the internationally acclaimed Dallas Brass will be performing at the Benjamin Russell High School Auditorium. Tickets information may be found at www.brhsband.com , by emailing the band at brhsband@alex.k12.al.us, by contacting the BRHS Band Office at 256-234-8618, or may be purchased at Caldwell Electronics (Radio Shack) on Cherokee Road in Alexander City beginning February 4, 2010. Tickets are $10 for all seats and will be first-come-first-served.

Founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The Dallas Brass show, American Musical Journey, incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history, from the time of George Washington to the present day. The program’s music has been selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin, Sousa; from bands like the Tijuana Brass and Chicago; and styles from Dixieland, swing, Broadway, folk, patriotic, pop, and even hip-hop!”

According to Mr. Levine, “a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music.” The ensemble includes: Michael Levine (director, trombone), Daniel Rosenboom (trumpet), D.J. Barraclough and Charlie Porter (trumpet, alto horn), Mark Burroughs (tuba) and Jeff Handel (drums/percussion.)

In addition to their solo engagements, the Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero. The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show,” and their music has been used numerous times on the television show, “The Young & The Restless.” The ensemble has released six recordings: Debut, Dallas Brass II, A Merry Christmas with Brass, Windborne, Nutcracker and American Musical Journey.

The Dallas Brass’ primary mission includes connecting with young musicians. Clinics are held in conjunction with almost every concert and band students are invited to join the Dallas Brass onstage for a selection on the evening performance. The Dallas Brass Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation, has been formed to support these educational efforts and donations are gratefully being accepted by the foundation to expand the mission of bringing their “Music in the School” program to as many school children as possible. The Dallas Brass will be hosting clinics and master classes for ACMS and BRHS Band Students during the day on February 25.

Dallas Brass is proud to play Antoine Courtois and Besson brass instruments.
